Mike Caputo (b. 1985) is an Italian-Puerto Rican American figurative artist who works across a variety of media. Their research focuses on the queer experience, sexuality, and relationships. Caputo’s work speaks to the ideas of queerness, questioning the constructs of gender including masculinity, femininity, and sex.
They studied at the State University of New York at New Paltz where they received an MFA in Painting with additional studio work in Printmaking and Photography in 2021. Caputo is a community arts educator and previously taught at the university level in painting, drawing, and foundations.
They have exhibited in a number of venues including the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, and in New York City at Bortolami Gallery and CRC Gallery.
Caputo’s work has been supported through a number of grants including the Sojourner Truth Fellowship, and the Research and Creative Projects Award.
They are currently and artist-in-residence at Flower City Arts Center and lives and work in Rochester, NY with their partner, photographer Ferris Ramirez.
